The Gin Passport by GinSquares
Every Gin Has a Story. Every Story Deserves a Destination.
If I look back several years, The Gin Passport actually started on Instagram as a simple way of documenting the gins I was trying — my own virtual passport of gin - all in little gin squares (back then Instagram was actually squares!).
Then lockdown happened, and things got a little out of hand.
With nowhere to go, I started researching the stories behind the bottles on my shelf: the distilleries, people, botanicals, traditions, history, myths and legends. One search led to another, and the rabbit holes got deeper. What started as documenting what I was drinking became a way of exploring countries and regions through the gins they create.
Somewhere along the way, I was asked more than once if I should turn all my gin stories into a coffee table book. I loved the idea, but the problem was that the world of gin doesn't stand still. New distilleries appear, new gins are released and new stories are constantly unfolding.
A book would capture a moment in time; The Gin Passport could keep evolving.
So that's what it became — a living passport to the world of gin.
Since then, I've been lucky enough to visit distilleries around the world, meet the people behind the bottles and continue researching the stories that make each gin interesting. From native botanicals and local traditions to strange facts, forgotten history and the occasional scandal, there's usually much more to discover than what's in the glass.
The Gin Passport is now a growing collection of gins, destinations and stories — and there's always another rabbit hole waiting to be explored.
You don't need a boarding pass to travel the world.
Sometimes, you just need a great gin.
